Marko Leutonen
CEO
I began my career as a mechanical designer in the mid-1990s. I quickly advanced to supervisory and management positions at engineering firms, eventually becoming CEO. As CEO, I also founded and managed a subsidiary in the software industry and served as a division manager at a larger engineering firm.
I founded Hefmec in 2004 and have served as its CEO ever since. I am responsible for strategic planning and business development, manage client relationships, and lead the company’s international expansion. I have been involved with the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Club for ten years.
In my free time, I travel around Europe in a motorhome and on a touring motorcycle, and in the winter I go skiing in the Alps. While traveling and in my free time in general, I enjoy nature photography, and I get to put my handyman skills to use in home construction and home automation. Sometimes I take out my cello and play Bach’s cello suites.
Competences
My expertise lies in strategic management and human resources management, which are truly close to my heart. Business development, sales, and customer relationship management are central to my work. I have a strong technical background in mechanical design and production technology, and I’m also proficient in project management and quality management, including operations compliant with the ISO 9001 standard. My expertise also includes auditing international design projects, internationalization, corporate restructuring, financial management, and networking. Thanks to my HHJ training, I am also qualified to serve on a board of directors.
Education & Experience
I hold a Master of Science (Technology), Mechanical Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology (TKK Espoo, 1997). I have completed executive training as well as the HHJ course, thereby earning certification as a qualified board member. I have also completed the Certified Human Leader training program. In addition, I have completed several other management and business training programs between 1998 and 2025. I have served as CEO of Hefmec since 2004.
